Paul Suttman (American, 1933-1993) was widely known as a representational artist, working within a variety of mediums and styles, eventually travelling to Italy and France to pursue studies in bronze-casting. During the 1970s he had begun creating sculptural still life works, experimenting with space and dimensionality. This small scale sculpture, created for J. Walter Thompson Co., comes in polished bronze, depicting a still life of fruit, including an apple and pear, arranged with a mug and bottle form vessel, on a circular base. Markings include the artist signature [Suttman] to the base; to the bottom [24/300/ J. Walter Thompson Co. Commission/ Buon Natale 1973]. The sculpture remains in very good vintage condition, minor wear to finish consistent with age and use.
