After leaving Rome, Savage was commissioned to pain numerous murals throughout the United States and Europe, including a ceiling triptych in the Elks Club National Memorial in Chicago, for which these were studies. the project was massive and brought together many of the most prominent artists of the time. the composition is subtly surreal, partly as a consideration for viewer position.
